When Apple, with much fanfare, announced iOS 7 in June, it also quietly confirmed a new feature called iBeacons, which uses Bluetooth Low Energy signalling to enable micro-location services and to trigger actions within apps.

This is more along the lines of media literacy… So now your iPhone, when set to wireless, will alert a retailer of your presence and kick in a whole host of electronic events such as sales notices, coupons, etc. Students need to be made aware of how this kind of technology will help retailers tailor ads to THEM which makes the seductive art of advertising even more difficult to resist.
