In this piece, written by a parent who was motivated to stand up to a charter school takeover attempt in her small town, is well written. My favorite nugget is this: "The current state of the Philadelphia school system should serve as a testament to the fact that the last decade of corporate reform has left the majority of Philadelphia’s public school children without the resources they need to succeed. Without a doubt, it is time for a more balanced approach." Indeed…they are shutting down their school libraries due to budget cuts in Philadelphia. Anybody want to venture a guess as to how many football teams have been disbanded? Basketball teams? Coach salaries? I don’t know for a fact that those areas have been untouched but historical data would tell us that the corporate reformers see a profit in sports and none in library resources…
