School Librarian Crisis in NYC AASL Blog

It is because of this law that many of New York City’s school children have the benefit of a librarian to serve them within their buildings, but despite this law, many NYC school children don’t have that benefit.

Susan Grigsby‘s insight:

Hey, library folks. If you think this is an isolated situation, think again. More and more local control (that’s the mantra of state legislatures these days, "local control") has been given to principals and school systems to decide to NOT have a librarian on staff. In my own system they are changing our job title and the requirements state "Instructional Technology degree preferred." This is a national crisis as technology blinds our colleagues into thinking the school librarian is a thing of the past.
